Suggestions for Learning from Home K-9

Children are naturally curious learners and there are opportunities at home to engage their learning. We have created a webpage that offers a variety of educational ideas to support literacy, numeracy and wellness at home for this week. The resources are meant as suggestions only. You may choose to use the links and activities as needed over the next few days as more long-term educational programming is considered.

The purpose of teacher blogs is to inform students and their families of day-to-day learning and activities throughout the school year.  We will continue to communicate learning opportunities and will provide links to online learning resources through these blogs.

Important information related to all school decisions will continue to be emailed to parents/guardians and can also be found on the CBE website (www.cbe.ab.ca).

Math - We just finished our Algebra Unit with a Unit Final last Thursday.  This week we were beginning our Pythagorean Theorem Unit with our focus on two chapters
3.1 Squares and Square Roots
3.3 Estimating Square Roots
Students can take a look at these concepts by accessing D2L, looking under Digital Resources and choosing our MathLinks 8 Textbook under Chapter 3

Science - We began our Eye Presentations a few weeks ago, students can ensure they have completed it and shared it with me.  The instructions for this assignment are found below:

Types of Eyes Visual Presentation
We have learned that eyes in the animal kingdom come in two varieties
Camera Eyes and Compound Eyes
Create a presentation explaining how three distinct organisms use their eyes (1 Camera, 1 Nocturnal Camera and 1 Compound) to survive in their individual environments.  Be sure to include the advantages and disadvantages their eyes pose to their survival.  You will be sharing your presentation to your teacher in order to create a slide presentation combining the efforts of both 8-3 and 8-4
Please share your link to jariberdy@educbe.ca

We would have begun an animal adaptation assignment this week, but that is on hold due to today's unique issues.
